Rob Vasquez had a plan to become a medical doctor. He also had migraines that had followed him since childhood. When someone suggested a visit to a chiropractor, he went looking for help with the headaches. He remembers the experience as the beginning of a different future.
Rob tells Tab how that visit influenced his decision to enter chiropractic school, build a practice, and eventually become a mentor to Randy Johns. Randy arrived with questions. Rob made time to answer them. Over the years, the relationship grew into a friendship that would matter far beyond either man's work.
Behind Rob's professional path is a much longer history of trying to feel comfortable in his own body. He remembers being a boy who wanted to change the way he looked, turning to severe restriction and finding himself weak and exhausted. As an adult, he built routines around exercise and appearance. A back injury later disrupted the activity he had come to rely on.
Tab recognizes parts of that struggle from the conversations people bring into his chair. Together, they explore how much effort can go into looking well, and how difficult it can be to talk about what is happening beneath that appearance.
Then Randy called with news of a cancer diagnosis.
Rob describes traveling to Spain to support his friend. During that visit, he found himself being asked to look at the pace and stress of his own life. A friendship that began with one man learning from the other had reached a moment when both had something to hear.
Their experiences would later shape the ideas they brought into Happy Healthy. Rob explains his thinking about lifestyle and metabolism, but the personal thread runs back much further: to childhood headaches, questions about his body, and the people who made time to listen.
Before Rob was answering questions in a practice of his own, he was the person walking into an office hoping someone could help him understand what he was going through.
