Rachel Varkey kept hearing the same ending to conversations with women in her life. Someone would share a problem, explain how much it was affecting them, and finish with it's fine. She recognized the habit in herself, especially when she was trying to understand her own identity and what she wanted from the next part of her life.

That question became the starting point for It's Fine with Rachel Varkey. She tells Tab why she wanted to make room for conversations that might lead somewhere, whether that meant finding information, meeting someone with useful experience, or finally giving a concern more attention. Talking could become a starting point for doing something differently.

The haircut gives them a familiar example of how people approach change. Tab shares what he has learned from clients arriving ready for a dramatic new look, and Rachel recognizes the appeal of an immediate, visible transformation. They consider the thought and practical work that follow when someone wants a change to reach further into their daily life.

Rachel also reflects on growing up in an Indian family in the United States and navigating expectations around education, independence, marriage, and tradition. She and Tab discuss the stories people tell themselves about what might happen if they choose a different direction. Rachel remembers moving to New York and the reaction from her family, alongside what she learned by making that choice.

Their conversation moves into accomplishment, self-worth, and the pressure to keep improving something that other people already see as good. Rachel talks about recognizing how much of her value she has placed in what she does, and the questions she is beginning to ask about what helps her feel settled within herself.

One of those questions is about being present. She describes catching herself looking ahead to the next task or worrying about the future while the moment in front of her is passing. She wants to get better at noticing that habit and returning to what is happening now. It is a question she is still working on, and one she is willing to keep talking about.
